A Ukrainian native living in Russia has reportedly attempted to kill a number of Russian military pilots with a poisoned cake and whiskey, Russian media reported.
The Fighterbomber Telegram channel, which has close ties with the Russian Aerospace Forces, alleged that the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) of Ukraine could have been involved in the incident which occurred at the Armavir Higher Military Aviation School in Russia’s Krasnodar region.
The flight school was hosting a banquet to commemorate the 20th anniversary of its alumni’s graduation. The guest list comprised 77 attendees, including many of Russia’s top-ranking active-duty pilots.
While the party was in full swing, a delivery man arrived with a massive 20-kilogram cake and several cases of Jameson Irish Whiskey. These were allegedly gifts from “grateful admirers,” Fighterbomber stated.
The alumni were initially delighted with the unexpected gifts, but suspicion arose when they began to question the identity of the sender.
After reviewing CCTV footage from the venue, a security official identified the delivery person as a 32-year-old resident of Russia, originally from Russian-occupied Melitopol in Ukraine.
His background, as presented by Russian media, paints a picture of an ordinary individual. Living in Russia since 2017, he worked in intercom system installations and has a young child.
The man was later detained at Stavropol Airport (STW) while attempting to travel to Moscow. During the subsequent investigation, he reportedly admitted to delivering the poisoned items.
